Step back in time to the Ancient era with this majestic Restoration period condiment set!

Made by Denis Garreau (received master goldsmith in 1817) and Antoine Adrien Vautrin (1824-1838).

 

Step back in time to the Ancient era with this majestic condiment set!

Restoration period,

This set consists of an oil and vinegar set, a mustard set and 4 large salt cellars, or spice sets.

The set was created by two goldsmiths:

  • The mustard pot and the four salt cellars by Antoine Adrien Vautrin
  • The oil and vinegar maker by the famous and talented Denis Garreau.

In the Empire style, the oil cruet is decorated with palmettes and antique scenes depicting two individuals, draped in the antique style, swearing loyalty to each other around the sacred fire.

The shaft is decorated with acanthus leaves, a cornucopia on the top of the handle and a lion's head at the bottom.

The base is decorated around the edge with water leaves and the feet are decorated with winged lion heads.

 

The salt cellars are decorated with the same antique scene and a laurel frieze on the top of the salt cellars.

The mustard pot is decorated with this same ancient scene and topped with a helmeted Minerva's head on the top of its handle.

Condition :

  • Oil and Vinegar Cruet: Minor scratches due to age and use, one scratch visible on one of the figures. One of the four feet decorated with a winged lion's head is shorter than the other three.

Presence of a limestone deposit on the top of the burettes (carafes) + small chips.

  • Mustard pot: Slight deformations + micro-scratches due to age and use + chips on the glass
  • Salt cellars: presence of small dents, minor repairs, and chips on the glassware

Ce service est constitué d’un huilier- vinaigrier, d’un moutardier et de 4 grands salerons, ou service à épices.

L’ensemble fût créé par deux orfèvres :

le moutardier et les 4 salerons par Antoine Adrien Vautrin
l’huilier-vinaigrier par le célèbre et talentueux Denis Garreau.

De style Empire, l’huilier est à décor de palmettes et de scènes antiques mettant en scène deux individus, drapés à l’antique, se jurant fidélité autour du feu sacré.

Le fut est à décor de feuilles d’acanthe, d’une corne d’abondance sur le haut de la prise et d’une tête de lion en son bas.

Le pourtour de la base est ornementé de feuilles d’eau et les pieds sont à décor de tête de lion ailés.


Les salerons sont ornementés de la même scène antique et d’une frise de laurier sur le haut des salerons.

Le moutardier est décoré de cette même scène antique et coiffé d’une tête de Minerve casquée sur le haut de son anse.

Huilier-Vinaigrier : Micros-rayures dues au temps et à l’usage, une rayure visible sur un des personnages. Un des 4 pieds à décor de tête de lion ailé est plus court que les 3 autres.
Présence d’un dépôt de calcaire sur le haut des burettes (carafes) + petites égrenures.

Moutardier : Légères déformations + micros-rayures dues au temps et à l’usage + égrenures sur la verrerie
Salerons : présence de petits chocs + petites restaurations + égrenures sur la verrerie
